BEF Biosystems
Founded in 2016 upon an initiative by Beppe Tresso, we are an innovative biotechnology company specialised in insect breeding, life cycle management technologies and in the production of derivatives for animal feed.
Governance
At present, BEF is controlled by Omnianet Tecnologie Srl, a holding company established by the operating partners to manage their shareholdings in a coordinated manner.
In 2022, a fundraising round was concluded successfully, leading to the subscription of a capital increase on the part of Antonio Belloni's Abba Srl, Marco Drago's Blu Acquario Prima SpA, as well as by Coeclerici SpA and Entsorgafin SpA.
Positioning
In these early years of activity, BEF Biosystems engaged in extensive research into the management of insect life-cycles: it developed in-house prototypes for the handling of bioconversion and reproduction processes and designed its own organic waste pre-treatment process to sanitise and stabilise the feeding substrates of the larvae.
The Bugsfarm
The excellent results of these activities confirmed the potential afforded by intensive rearing of the Hermetia illucens fly, making it possible to identify the optimal positioning of bioconversion technologies and processes downstream of the industrial agronomic and agrifood production chains, i.e., before residual materials enter the waste cycle.
