Insect frass is the residue from larvae bioconversion processes and is made of undigested food, droppings, and exoskeleton residues.

Rich in macronutrients

A product with a good carbon-to-nitrogen ratio, with carbon at around 20% and total nitrogen at around 2-3%, the latter being slow-release. Together with its phosphorus and potassium content, these elements make it an excellent alternative to chemical fertilisers.

The main distinguishing trait of frass is the presence of exoskeleton residues from larval moults, which are very rich in chitin.

This chitin is similar to that of mushrooms and shellfish: when it comes into contact with plant roots, it triggers an immune response that makes the plants more resistant to possible future attacks by pathogenic fungi.

High biological fertility

The characteristic composition of frass makes it a very valuable product with a strong impact on biological fertility, a key parameter recently introduced in modern, sustainable agriculture.
